Great concert by Willie Nile and friends yesterday in Kafe Antzokia in Bilbao.
"...The US, with all the good, the bad and the in between"

Would love to get to a site with their lyrics. For exampleI´d love to read the ones on "Yesterday´s dreams",...

....and here "One guitar", an anthem, guest in a concert by James Maddock and friends. Great things when passion joins responsibility :-)!
It is the middle of the night right in the middle of the street
It could be uptown, downtown but I can feel the beat
There is a marchin' drum there is a song unsung
It could be your dream, my dream it's not the only one

I'm a soldier marchin' in an army
Got no gun to shoot
But what I got is one guitar
I got this one guitar

I see the risin' smoke I hear a heartbreak joke
Hey all my brothers and sisters I think it's time we spoke
I've only got six strings but like a bell they ring
Its like a jet plane, insane crashin' in my brain

I'm a soldier marchin' in an army
Got no gun to shoot
But what I got is one guitar
I got this one guitar
And it goes... na na na...

So if you get knocked down you gotta take a stand
For all the outcast, dead last who need a helping hand
So get your tambourines and turn your arms up loud
And raise your voices, voices up above this crowd

GAMESTORMING+DOODLING WORKSHOP (SUNNI BROWN). BILBAO: 22+23 Spt

Some months ago we were inspired with taking Sunni Brown to Bilbao to share a bit of her knowledge and her originality. Next week it´s coming true: on 22nd +  23th September she´ll be offering a 2 day workshop in Bilbao (just this opportunity in South Europe)...

DESCRIPTION:  Gamestorming your Workplace (A.k.a., How to Design and Run a Meeting using Words AND Pictures)

Since the vast majority of us have to either plan or attend meetings, why not become a Jedi at designing and running them? The simple but revolutionary techniques of visual thinking and gamestorming assure that your meeting not only doesn’t stink, but that you make the best use of everyone’s time and dramatically shorten the length of time in which you do it. The value of visual thinking and participatory design with a group is enormous and the benefits include...

  • Using a simple, shared visual language to increase understanding and information retention;
  • Applying improvisational discovery to keep participants engaged;
  • Mapping the big picture, solving problems and innovating as a team;
  • Creating visual meeting artifacts to drive decisions forward.
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist or an artist of any caliber to learn how to design and lead better meetings. In this day-long workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of visual language, how to illuminate complexities by mapping the big picture and how to use improvisation and games to innovate and solve real problems. At the end of the workshop you’ll feel more confident about using visualization in meetings and you’ll recognize the power of doing so. So let the games begin!
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this workshop, learners will be able to:
  • Recognize when to have a meeting (and when not to);
  • Design meeting agendas that move a group to a desired outcome;
  • Use games to support innovation and creative problem-solving;
  • Leverage techniques that lead to co-creation and team solutions;
  • Lead meetings, workshops, and group sessions comfortably using visual thinking and basic office supplies.
  • ...

STARTING THE UNDERGROUND WORLD CO!NSPIRATION :-)

STARTING THE UNDERGROUND W-CO!NSPIRATION :-)

This draft was started in NYC, during the Open Space for High Performance and Peace Learning Experience the 14th Jan 2011. Suzanne&Eleder (both in the photo, having co-written the first draft of this post) Terri, Caitlin, Karen, Harrison, Chino, Greg,  and many more took part in conversations that inspired these piece.

Are you an underground mayor (UM) of your place? Someone that plays politics in a joyful way;  probably out of the political parties but being in touch with people engaged in all the parties?  Someone that loves conversation and would need an hour´s time to walk half a mile in her neighbourhood? Prone to dream up the craziest ways to get us all to a more joyful way of living?

Yes, kind of? Sure, you really are an UM (underground mayor -preferred to unofficial-) of your place and have been so for years.  Now you come to know that a term was coined (first heard to Greg Rivera addressing myself :-) for it, you finally get a sense of belonging, and are now eager to spread the word.  This makes quite a difference because you´ll be conscious from now on and the idea will start its own life.

We have probably also UPs of the world (term coined by brilliant Caitlin Nisos-Atlanta): they have the same way to play politics, but they play in a wider area, not necessarily their everyday walking distance area. They move quite much by plane. Myself I´m also a UP of the world, I was told, concerned with food, public space usage, creativity, de-electified fun, but act mainly as UM, considering it a more comfortable and easier way of being.

Organic growing: by the way, how can the word be spread in a minimal effort way? I suppose that starting a w-platform and so would imply too much work and would be counter-underground. Maybe that just having people knowing about it, mainly through oral informal conversations and just a little organic presence in the net, just people that like the idea most keeping lists of mates around the world, signing e-mails with the term, keeping some links related to it listed, something like so would be enough.

Openness: Maybe you still don't realize that you really are one of us, but you sure know some of them. Let them, us & the world know, please! There are, sure, some 87.349 UMs in NYC, same as we are some 12.739 in Bilbao... We are a growing government :-)! How many UMs in your town?

Voluntary responsibility: it´s oneself who comes to know about the term and says, oh, yes, I´m a UM of my town, city, neighbourhood,…” and starts to state it wherever, when told the story.

No salary: but maybe we one day start paying a symbolic fee for the U-mayordom to fund some funnily interesting experiment/people/stuff
And, if you feel much like, start us in the WUM movement, the net supporting all the underground mayors of the world :-)! Maybe just organizing a minimal distribution list for Ums and people around?

More key words: Another entry outside of politics (as politics is losing its meaning). Flatten the hierarchy. With humor, fun, creativity, dreaming of what can be regarding serious issues. Visionaries. Inspire each other. Play on words. Attractor, curiosity, playfulness, positive politics (pp). Humor: diffuses criticism or marginalizing of others; invites a place to have serious discussions.

Some UMs met these days in NYC, Bilbao, and through the internet:
Chino (Carlos) Garcia, NYC-Lower East Side; Karen Davis, NYC-Upper West
– people in the HI Youth Hostel : friend from Osaka, Japan; Rodrigo and Ricky, Buenos Aires,
Gerry Kirk, Kirk, Canada
Suzanne, Florida ; Caitlin, Atlanta ; probably, indeed, all the participants of the workshop 2011 OS for High Performance Learning Experience.
- John Stewart.Comedy Central
- Bilbao: Oihane, María, Rober (Zurbaran), Rubén (Zurbaran), Eleder (auto-exiled in Mundaka :-)
-Berlin: Anna Caroline Türk

Keep in touch!

ABOUT FLOW & SHOW

Ibaizabal river in Bilbao. Photo by Jose Manuel Vargas

This blog is written by someone who uses English as a tool to learn from and communicate with the world. I can read and understand English quite well. When I write I may make some mistakes, but I hope you will understand the message.

I start this blog in English as a window to the world.

Some months ago I started my first blog: BURU-MAPAK in Basque language mainly. I'm passionate about our ancient language, which is joyful for (almost) whatever original contribution...

Some days ago I started another blog in Spanish: IN-FLUYENDO. Trying my way as a freelance in the creativity field may be more realistic if I work for the Spanish market also. That's why I'll be posting bits and pieces in Spanish too.

FLOW&SHOW will be the third piece of the puzzle. The main learning resources and communitiesI learn from and take part in are English language ones. They also get interested in who I am, what I do,... I hope FLOW&SHOW will somehow answer these questions.

And, why did I start blogging some months ago? As I've just said, in winter 2008 I started my freelancing path, which aims to an integral lifestyle in which everything I do makes sense. The fields I'm focusing on: mind mapping, open space technology and creativity. Training and facilitation.

Those three blogs will be the way I'll tell about my activity and thinking (mainly related to these fields).

Hope it'll flow and show... just a bit, at least!
